Bird Watching Safaris

Uganda is an exceptional bird-watching destination, with more than 1,000 recorded bird species and a remarkable variety of habitats ranging from wetlands and tropical forests to savannahs, lakes and highland ecosystems. This diversity allows birders to encounter a wide range of resident species as well as migratory birds during different times of the year.

Birding can be enjoyed across the country, from the wetlands around Entebbe and Mabamba Bay to the forests of Bwindi Impenetrable and Kibale, the lowland rainforest of Semuliki, and the savannah landscapes of Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth, Lake Mburo and Kidepo Valley National Parks. Each destination offers a different collection of habitats and bird species.

For specialist birders, Uganda’s forests are particularly significant. Bwindi and Mgahinga provide opportunities to search for Albertine Rift endemics, while Semuliki National Park is notable for species associated with the Guinea-Congo biome that are uncommon elsewhere in East Africa. Murchison Falls is also a key destination for the highly sought-after Shoebill.
