ABOUT BIGODI WETLAND WALK

Overview

The Bigodi Wetland Walk offers an immersive journey through the lush wetlands of western Uganda, just outside Kibale National Park. The guided trail passes through the rich Magombe Wetland, where dense papyrus, forest vegetation, waterways and community landscapes create an exceptional setting for wildlife and birdwatching.

The walk is particularly rewarding for bird and primate enthusiasts. Bigodi is known for its Great Blue Turaco and supports more than 200 recorded bird species, while visitors may encounter primates including red colobus, black-and-white colobus, red-tailed monkeys, blue monkeys, vervet monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys and baboons. Other wildlife can include sitatunga, bushbucks and otters.

A typical guided walk covers approximately 4.5 kilometres and takes around three hours, with sections of the route following wooden boardwalks through the wetland. Local guides provide insight into the area’s wildlife, plants and conservation efforts, making the experience more than simply a nature walk.
